THE PHOTOGRAPHY HOLIDAY IN A NUTSHELL:

A week’s photography course in Essaouira with daily photography classes will give you 25 guided learning hours (GLH’s) the same contact time as a level 1 qualification in digital photography over 10 weeks at your local college of Further Education. The advantage of an overseas photography course set over the duration of a week is you get to fully immerse yourself in understanding photography and taking photographs in extremely photogenic locations.

COURSE ETHOS:

Camera controls and understanding are distilled into an ‘easy to use’ approach.  The main emphasis is on developing an appreciation of seeing the world around you in photographic terms.  It’s to develop your own style and to produce a portfolio of work that transcends simple record shots of locations. Likewise you’ll hopefully reproduce what you’ve learnt here back home on your return.

TUTOR:

I’m a UK qualified tutor with a BA (Hons) in Photographic Studies and a post graduate teaching qualification for post 16 education. I also have a Masters Degree in Film & Television production.  I taught for many years at colleges in the UK prior to running the photography classes in Morocco.

PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES: THE WEEK’S COURSE:

A week’s photography with daily photography classes closely follows the City & Guilds Unit 101 Introduction to Image Capture (based in 25 GLH). However we will exclusively work with digital image capture using your  DSLR’s or your phone camera/

THINGS YOU WILL LEARN:

1 Preparing for each day’s photography; checking and charging batteries, making space for new images, checking the lens for dirt and the sensor for debris.

2 Setting up your DSLR camera / phone from scratch; points for focus, exposure, and motor modes.

3 Using your camera controls and modes; shutter & aperture priority, exposure, histograms and exposure compensation.

4 Selecting subject types and identifying different approaches to photographing people, landscapes, objects and buildings.

5 Composing and framing images.

6 Using different lenses and focal lengths.

7 Capturing and manipulating images with an introduction to software using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

Underpinning knowledge will refer to examples of photography across the following genres:  abstract photography, portrait photography, reportage photography and seascape photography.
